About the foundation
In honour of Erin.
The Erin Foundation is a registered South African non-profit company, created in 2025 after the loss of my daughter Erin. Home for grief is its public face, a literary, dignified space for the bereaved and those who support them.
Why this place exists
We wanted to
make more room
for grief.
After we lost Erin in May 2024, we began looking more closely at what existed for people living with grief, particularly here in South Africa. We found good people doing meaningful work, valuable resources, and places offering real comfort and support. We didn't want to replace any of that. We wanted to add to it.
We imagined a South African space that could hold many parts of grief in one place: practical guidance and trusted resources, certainly, but also stories, books, music, conversation, creativity and the ordinary things that can make someone feel a little less alone. Somewhere that felt less like a directory of grief and more like company within it.
Home for Grief grew from that idea.
It is not a clinic, and it is not a self-help app. It is a considered space, closer in spirit to a literary journal than a traditional grief website. It is for anyone who has lost someone, and for anyone trying to stay close to someone who has.
We don't stand apart from the wider community of grief support. We hope to stand alongside it: another place to turn, another voice in the conversation, another lantern in the dark, offered freely to whoever needs it.

behind the work
The foundation is led by Taryn, alongside a small circle of trusted readers, writers, designers, and clinicians who help us with the work. None of it, however, would be possible without the community that has gathered around us, the people who have donated, offered their time and expertise, shared our work, opened doors, and believed in what we are building. The Erin Foundation exists because many people have chosen to help carry it.
We can't make
grief smaller.
But we can make sure people don't have to carry it alone.
