Loss of a parent
For the grown-up child grieving a mother or father.

My mom
PriyaJune 2026
My mother died and everyone treated it as the natural order of things — "she had a good innings," "at least you had her this long." And she did, and I did. But she was still my mother and I am still, at forty-four, somebody's child until suddenly I wasn't. What helped me was cooking her food. I couldn't speak about her for months, but I could make her dhal, and standing at the stove with her recipe in my head was the closest I got to having her near.I have her recipe book. I like to cook her dishes and I'm teaching my daughter. How I honour them
