Loss of unborn child, miscarriage, or stillbirth
Love for a Life That Was Brief
A bond that existed, even if unseen.
It can be hard to believe that love for someone you never held, or only held briefly, can be as profound as any other. Society often implies that love must be measured by time spent together, but anyone who has lost a pregnancy or baby knows that love does not require years to become deep.
The bond between a parent and child begins early. It lives in the anticipation, the care, the dreams, the quiet moments of connection before birth. When that bond is severed, the love does not simply evaporate. It has nowhere to go, and that can feel unbearable.
Some people find comfort in naming their child, creating rituals, or planting something in their memory. Others hold the love privately, finding their own ways to honor what was. There is no right way to carry love for a life that was brief. What matters is giving yourself permission to feel it fully, without comparison, without apology, and without the pressure to move on before you are ready.
Love does not require time to be real.
Your grief is not disproportionate. It is a reflection of love that was already alive.
And you are allowed to carry that love with you, for as long as you need.
With care,
The Erin Foundation
