Loss of unborn child, miscarriage, or stillbirth

The Grief That Has No Public Name

When loss arrives before the world knew to expect it.

There is a particular loneliness in losing a pregnancy or a baby before they were fully known by the world. The loss is real, vast, and life-altering, and yet, there is often no funeral, no obituary, no public acknowledgment of what has been taken from you.

Many people who experience miscarriage or stillbirth describe feeling invisible in their grief. Friends and family may not know what to say. Some may minimize the loss, believing that early loss is somehow less significant. Others may avoid the topic entirely, leaving you to carry your sorrow in silence.

But the love was already present. The hopes were already formed. The future you imagined was already real to you, even if no one else could see it. Grief in this space is not excessive, it is proportional to the depth of what you were preparing to give.

You are allowed to grieve what never got to be.

You are allowed to feel the fullness of your loss, no matter how invisible it feels to others.

Your grief is not a secret. It is a love story that deserves witness.

With care,
