Loss of unborn child, miscarriage, or stillbirth

When the Body Feels Like the Enemy

Healing physically and emotionally after pregnancy loss.

After miscarriage or stillbirth, many people feel betrayed by their own bodies. The same body that was meant to nurture and protect now feels like a source of pain, failure, or even punishment. Medical procedures, hormonal shifts, and physical recovery can compound an already devastating emotional wound.

It is common to feel disconnected from yourself, to avoid mirrors, to resent the body that could not do what you hoped, to feel shame for something that was never your fault. This disconnection is a form of trauma. The body holds what the mind cannot yet process.

Healing in this space takes time and gentleness. It means learning to listen to your body with compassion rather than blame. It means allowing rest without guilt, care without justification, and space to grieve not only the baby, but the pregnancy, the experience, and the future your body was preparing for.

Your body did not fail you. It was part of a story that ended too soon, and it deserves care as you find your way forward.

With care,
