Anticipatory grief

Love in the Time of Waiting

Finding meaning in the time that remains.

When someone you love is facing the end of life, the remaining time takes on a strange weight. Every conversation, every touch, every shared glance can feel both precious and painful. You want to hold on tighter. You want to freeze time. You want to say everything, and sometimes you do not know what to say at all.

Love during anticipatory grief does not need to be dramatic. It does not require grand gestures or perfect words. Often, the most powerful expression of love is simply presence. Sitting together. Holding a hand. Listening. Allowing silence. Being there without needing to fix or change anything.

Some people find meaning in legacy conversations, in recording stories, in creating rituals that honor what remains. Others find meaning in nothing at all, simply being near, simply continuing to care. There is no template for how to love in this season. What matters is that the love continues, in whatever form it can.

You are allowed to simply be present.

You do not need to make every moment extraordinary.

Your love, even in quiet form, is enough.

With care,
